Hello my friends!!!!
I hope everyone is doing well amidst these crazy times!!!! Never, did I think we would still be at this stage of COVID-19 in September. Back in March, I had fingers and toes and everything crossed that by now we would have come out on the other side of all of this and we’d be well on our way, ramping up for my MOST FAVOURITE event of the year!
However, I am writing with a very heavy heart to let you know about the fate of Sounds of Christmas for 2020. I have been hoping for a miracle, but it appears there is not one in sight .... just yet.
I had word from WMB this week and it looks like we will not have a venue available to hold the show. WMB is closing their rentals for 6-8 weeks to see what happens with the start of school. This would put their opening date to about two weeks before our Show Dates. Even at that time, any rentals will be limited to a maximum of 50 people and masks must be worn by everyone during the entire time in the building. Since there are close to 40 people involved in the actual running of the Show, that would mean we could have an Audience of approx. 10 people......there would be more people on the stage than in the audience. Even if we could have an audience of 50 people, it is still not enough to cover the cost of the rental of the facility, let alone everything else.
With the number of cases rising, and further restrictions put on social gathering numbers over the weekend, it is just not even an option to have the show this year. Safety must come first for everyone involved. My heart is breaking and I am so sad. All of the Cast is so disappointed! For some of us, this will be the first Fall in 8 years that we have not had rehearsal every Sunday afternoon from the end of September to December!!!!
Am I hopeful for a Spring Show? Of course!!!!! Will it be a possibility? Who knows at this point? I am not setting any dates right now, but I still think it is something to work towards so that, should things end up going better than people anticipate, we could be ready.
My friend Fred Hale gave me a pep talk the other week about "weathering the storm".....and that is what we all have to do......and while we are doing this, we can still prepare and get ready for the future and great times together to come.......so that when the time does actually come, we will be ready and raring to go!!!!!!
One thing I know for sure is that THERE WILL BE ANOTHER SHOW IN THE FUTURE!!!!!
For those of you who have purchased your tickets (or pushed your Sentimental Journey tickets to Sounds of Christmas) already, here are your 3 options:
1. DONATION: Since The Sounds of Christmas has always been in support of KidsAbility, you have the option to DONATE your ticket amount to KidsAbility in exchange for a tax receipt. If you would like to turn your ticket purchase into a Donation, we ask that you send us your Name and Mailing Address that you would like your tax receipt sent to. KidsAbility will issue tax receipts at the end of the year. (Those people that donated their ticket purchase from Sentimental Journey, you will also receive your tax receipt at the end of the year. Since the Centre was closed, I held the Donations until I could take them in person.)
Thank you for considering your support to KidsAbility.
2. REFUND: If you would like a refund, you will need to contact us by email or phone (Box Office 519-502-8390). Tickets purchased by credit card will be refunded to the credit card. Tickets purchased by Ticketscene will be refunded by Ticketscene. (please contact me and I will make sure the refund goes through from Ticketscene) Tickets purchased by cash or cheque will be refunded by e-transfer or a cheque mailed out to you. If you have multiple tickets purchased and would like to DONATE a portion of your purchase, this is also an option. The easiest way to track all of this would be by sending an email, as then we have everything in writing. Name, Number of Tickets, Method of Payment, Address if receiving a refund by cheque. If you do not feel comfortable doing this over email, please call the Box Office (519-502-8390) and somebody will be in touch. Please be patient as we expect a high volume of calls.
3. TRADE YOUR TICKET FOR THE NEXT SHOW: Because many of you purchased tickets at an "Early Bird Rate", you can choose to trade your ticket for a future show. This ensures that you receive the next show of your choice at the same price as you have already paid (even when the price goes up). We will track this and also send you confirmation via a Gift Certificate for ____ Free Tickets. We will need Name and Mailing Address. I am hoping for a Spring Show but if things were still shut down (or the dates don't work for you), you can move it to The Sounds of Christmas or any other production in the future.
I am so sorry to have to send you this news. It was my very last option to have to cancel the shows….but I must consider the safety and wellbeing of all involved.
Please share this message with any friends and family that may have been joining you as we only have contacts for the mailing list and the person who phoned to purchase tickets and paid with Visa/MC.
At this time, you can EMAIL me directly at johnic@rogers.com and let me know your wishes….or you can call our Box Office 519-502-8390 and they will be happy to assist you. Please be patient as we expect a high volume of calls in the coming days.
I know many of you kick off your holiday season with The Sounds of Christmas and it has become a Christmas tradition for many. I am so sorry that we have to "skip a year". I am going to miss our time together, but we WILL be together again......
Until then, let's check in on one another, let's be there for each other, let's encourage each other.....this is hard, but WE CAN DO IT!!!!
As my friend Curtis said to me....."We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when.....but I know we'll meet again some sunny day"........
And boy, what a GRAND day that will be!!!!
My love to you all and big hugs all around!
Wishing you a Fall full of "Thanksgiving" and a very Happy Christmas Season! We will miss you but look forward to when we will be together again!!!In the meantime, be well and stay safe!!
With gratitude,

Hello friends!
I hope that everyone is staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.
It is with a very heavy heart that I am sending this message. Due to the continuation of the COVID-19 outbreak, we are going to be unable to present our performances of “A Sentimental Journey 2”.
I am sorry for the delay in getting this message to all of you, but there were many steps to this process.
It was my intention to try and postpone the shows to a later date since our venue will not be open by our May dates. I was waiting to see what was going to happen with school for our Youth chorus. If/when they were heading back to school, I was waiting to hear if there would be a school extension and if/when our older students would be writing exams. I would need to work around that timeline.
I continued virtual rehearsals with the Youth Chorus and we discussed the options of moving our show dates. Since school seems to still be up in the air, we decided that a summer postponement may work. Originally we thought end of June/beginning of July. As Toronto made announcements to cancel all large gatherings until July, we then looked towards the end of summer for a postponement. We all agreed that we would have to do the show before school started in September because if school does not go back during this school year, our Youth Cast would not be able to be missing school days at the beginning of a new school year after being off for months at a time. Once we got to the end of September, we would need to start rehearsing for The Sounds of Christmas.
I got everyone’s potential summer schedule (should things be back up and running) and tried to find some dates that would work (for Youth Cast, Adult Cast, musicians and technicians). We also needed to work around the venue schedule and any events (such as weddings) that they needed to rebook.
Unfortunately, we were unable to come up with a timeline that would work for everyone involved. As a result, we are going to have to cancel the shows for this year (with the intention that we will still present this show in the future).
HOW DOES THIS IMPACT TICKETS PURCHASED:
We are hoping that you may consider exchanging/trading your tickets purchased for Sounds of Christmas tickets. I am very optimistic that The Sounds of Christmas will be happening.
We have the dates booked and are planning the show already:
SEE SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS DATES BELOW THIS MESSAGE
1. If you would like to trade/exchange your tickets for The Sounds of Christmas, you DO NOT have to decide which day you want to come right now. We realize that you won’t know your schedule this far in advance. We would ask that you EITHER email or call the Box Office and just let us know that you are going to exchange your tickets and we will mark your current tickets as pending for a Sounds of Christmas date. This will help to save any credit card charges that have already been paid out to Visa/MC. (email and numbers to contact listed towards end of this message).
NOTE: All exchanges will be traded at equal value. This means, if you got Early Bird pricing for Sentimental Journey, we will honour the exchanged tickets at the same rate.
2. As you know, these shows were being presented in support of KidsAbility.
KidsAbility is near and dear to my heart as my son attended the centre from the time he was 18 months to 5 years of age. These shows are a way to “give back” for all of the help they gave our family.
Another opportunity is to consider donating your ticket purchase to KidsAbility for a full tax receipt. Now more than ever before KidsAbility needs our help. While all KidsAbility physical locations are currently closed, KidsAbility therapists and staff are working remotely! Each and every KidsAbility family is being contacted by therapists to provide support, consultation and home programming suggestions. And, a new section on KidsAbility website is dedicated to resources to support families during COVID-19 that can be found here: https://kidsability.ca/resources-during-covid19. They are also working on resources that will be published to help families with their virtual appointments and are offering three virtual support sessions this week. They are also working on 2 workshops to offer through Facebook Live this month and working on specific therapy offerings like a virtual circle time for current clients, hoping to launch the week of April 14. www.kidsability.ca
If you would like to turn your ticket purchase into a Donation, we ask that you send us your Name and Mailing Address that you would like your tax receipt sent to. Receipts will be issued at the end of the year.
Thank you for considering your support to KidsAbility.
3. If neither #1 or #2 work as options for you, we will offer a refund. Any tickets purchased with Visa/MC will be refunded to your credit card.
FOR PEOPLE WHO PURCHASED ON TICKETSCENE:
I have been in touch with ticketscene and they will refund money for tickets but they do not refund the service charge.
1. If you purchased tickets over ticketscene and would like to exchange them for Sounds of Christmas tickets, please call our Box Office (519-502-8390) and we will assist with the exchange. (by doing this, there is no extra service charge on our end)
2. We ask that any refunds be directed to ticketscene.ca.
At this time, if you would like to use Option 1 or 2, you can EMAIL me directly at johnic@rogers.com and let me know your wishes….or you can call our Box Office 519-502-8390 and they will be happy to assist you. Please be patient as we expect a high volume of calls in the coming days.
We look forward to entertaining you at The Sounds of Christmas and we will go on that Sentimental Journey at a later date!
For now, we wish all of you a Happy Easter.
Stay safe, wash your hands and practice physical distancing now so that we can all be together again really soon!

Dream big. That’s what Nicole Guse did when she decided to produce The Sounds of Christmas, a multi-generational musical variety show in support of KidsAbility. “My son, Joshua, attended KidsAbility for both speech and occupational therapy from the time he was 18 months old until he finished junior kindergarten at the KidsAbility school at age 5,” explains Nicole. “It was my dream to give back to KidsAbility
on a grander scale, while at the same time bringing the community together to enjoy the season.”
In December 2013, Nicole’s dream became a reality with her critically acclaimed production. Even Nicole’s son participated in The Sounds of Christmas – a truly remarkable feat considering his past. “When Joshua started at KidsAbility, he could barely say three words,” states Nicole. “He had sensory issues with both touch and sound. Today, Joshua is a great example of what early intervention can do for a young child. He now talks up a storm, loves to sing and dance, and has learned valuable strategies to help deal very effectively with his sensory issues through the help at KidsAbility.”
The Sounds of Christmas proved to be a smashing success, raising over $100,000.00 to date for KidsAbility in the past five years. The show includes 12 professional adults, but it also gives children a wonderful opportunity to be part of a production that emphasizes the true spirit of giving! Today, Nicole's dream continues with The Sounds of Christmas 2019
